Bansara Eye Care Centre (BECC) is a leading comprehensive eye care institution based in Shillong, Meghalaya, dedicated to delivering high-quality, accessible, and patient-centred ophthalmic services across North-East India.

For over 30 years, Bansara Eye Care Centre has been serving the eye care needs of the region and has emerged as one of Meghalaya’s most trusted institutions for advanced ophthalmic care. The hospital has treated over 1 million patients and performed more than 35,000 eye surgeries,
providing both routine and specialised treatment to patients from across the state.

The centre operates through a hub-and-spoke eye care delivery model, consisting of a central base hospital in Shillong supported by 14 Vision Centres located across Meghalaya. This model ensures that primary eye care services are accessible at the community level, while patients requiring specialised treatment are referred to the base hospital for advanced diagnostics and surgical care.

Bansara Eye Care Centre has been twice awarded the Best Performing Eye Care Hospital in Meghalaya under MHIS and Ayushman Bharat by the State Government (2023 and 2024), reflecting its commitment to quality service delivery and patient care.

The hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic and surgical infrastructure and is the first centre in Meghalaya to implement tele-ophthalmology services, enabling ophthalmologists to support remote consultations across the vision centre network.

Bansara Eye Care Centre is also the only hospital in Meghalaya with a dedicated Vitreo-Retina setup and Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) screening services, along with 24×7 emergency eye care services, ensuring timely management of critical eye conditions.

 

Dry Eye and Ocular Surface Services

Bansara Eye Care Centre provides specialised evaluation and management of Dry Eye Disease and ocular surface disorders through its dedicated clinical services.

Services include:

• Comprehensive dry eye assessment
• Tear film and ocular surface evaluation
• Slit-lamp based examination and diagnosis
• Medical management and follow-up care
• Patient counselling on ocular surface health and preventive care

Patients may be evaluated at the Base Hospital in Shillong or at the nearest Vision Centre, where trained optometrists provide initial assessment and referral for specialist care if required.
